Another record day to be invested in America. On the news that Sen. John McCain will vote for the proposed sweeping new tax reform legislation, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rocketed past 24,000 today , jumping 331 points to set an all-time high of 24,272.35.
Based on that index, Americans made 1.39 percent today in their stocks. It was the best day of the year for the DJIA and the 8th straight month of gains.
Meanwhile, the bore broadly based S&P 500 index also set an all-time high of 2,647.58 after jumping 0.82 percent or 21 points. It was the best day for this index of 500 stocks since March 1.
It's been a great ride this year for those invested in stocks, or those who have company 401Ks or other forms of retirement plans. Consider:
* In January, the DJIA set an all-time record when it shot past 20,000 for the first time; then, the closely watched index reached a record 21,000 on March 1.
* This past August, another DJIA record was reached at 22,000 . Then, on Oct. 18, the DJIA hit 23,000 for the first time.
